How to play Globle Game
Every day there is one mystery country. Your goal is to find it in as few guesses as possible.
Guessing
Type a country name and choose it from the list. Many other names work too, for example Burma for Myanmar, UAE for the United Arab Emirates or Holland for the Netherlands. There is no limit on guesses.
Colours
Each guess is coloured on the globe by how close it is to the mystery country:
- Dark red: it touches the mystery country, or is less than 500 km away
- Orange: 500 to 1,500 km
- Yellow: 1,500 to 3,500 km
- Pale yellow to cream: further away
The colour changes smoothly with the distance, so two red countries can still have different shades. When you find the answer it turns blue.
How distance is measured
The distance is the shortest distance between the borders of the two countries, measured along the curved surface of the Earth. It is not the distance between capitals or centres.
- Countries that share a land border are 0 km apart. France and Spain are an example.
- Islands are measured from their coast. The United Kingdom and France are about 37 km apart on our map, across the Strait of Dover.
- Countries include their overseas parts as drawn on the map. France includes French Guiana, so France touches Brazil and Suriname.
The map is based on Natural Earth data at 1:50 million scale, so distances are rounded and can differ a little from other sources.
Hints
You can take up to three hints: the continent, how many other countries in the game it touches on our map, and the first letter of its name. Hints you use are shown in your shared result.
Small countries
Very small countries, such as Singapore, Vatican City or Tuvalu, are hard to see on a globe. When you guess one, it is also shown with a round marker.
Continents
Continents follow the Natural Earth data. For example, Russia is listed under Europe, and Turkey, Cyprus and the Caucasus countries are listed under Asia.
Streaks, stats and sharing
When you find the daily country, your stats are updated: wins, current streak, best streak and average guesses. A streak continues if you find the country on the next day too. Press Share result to copy a short text with coloured squares for each guess. It does not reveal the country.
Stats are stored only in your browser. If you clear your browser data or change device, they start again.
Tips
- Start with a big country in the middle of a continent, such as Kazakhstan, Brazil or the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The answer tells you a lot about where to look next.
- Watch the closest guess at the top of the list, and guess its neighbours.
- Turn the globe to look at what is around your warmest guess. Dark red with 0 km means you are next door.
- Remember the islands. If the distance stops shrinking on land, the country may be across the sea.
